Now executives at General Motors are drawing up plans to sell their Hummer 4x4s in Europe.
The bête noire of the anti-4×4 lobby, Hummers have so far left the United States in only small numbers. But by summer the new Hummer 3 is set to go on sale in GM dealerships with a range of new environmentally friendly diesel engines. GM is also considering a right-hand-drive version for Britain — a move likely to infuriate anti-4×4 campaigners and also Land Rover. The American 4×4 will be marketed directly against its British rival.
